Memorial Day

We Remember Those Who Gave All

From the President's Desk...

As we approach the end of May, our thoughts often turn to Memorial Day.  We typically view this as the unofficial start of summer.  It’s a long weekend involving family and friends while enjoying our favorite beverages around the grill, or perhaps an opportunity to spend time working in the yard or garden.  While all valid pursuits, there is a much more important aspect to this holiday that deserves our attention.

Memorial Day traditions date back to the Civil War days when soldiers’ graves were decorated, parades and re-enactments were held, and political speeches were given.  Eventually the name “Decoration Day” became widely utilized throughout the country.  In 1967 federal law officially named it Memorial Day, and the following year the holiday was moved to the final Monday in May.

While our modern traditions and celebrations are certainly enjoyable, I invite you to join me not only on Memorial Day, but through the entire year, to reflect upon the ultimate sacrifice that so many armed service members have made through the years.  The freedoms we continue to enjoy and take for granted rest upon the shoulders of those who gave everything in defense of our country.

A special thank you to everyone who has served in the military, as well as to the family members of our military men and women.  All of you are heroes in every sense of the word.

From all of us at WCF Financial Bank, Happy Memorial Day.
