The summer season is now upon us. Schools are closed, vacations are in full swing, and local ball diamonds are full of activity. In June, that also means we’ve reached the time to honor men who have the role of being a father.
In the United States, Father’s Day was first commemorated on the third Sunday of June in 1910. It was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of American Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart. In the many decades since, a typical Father’s Day includes providing dad with gifts, many times including a home cooked meal with family, greeting cards, and perhaps even a favorite power tool.
While most fathers certainly appreciate the gifts, many other things are typically more important on this day. This summer Sunday provides an opportunity to spend time relaxing at home with family. No matter if it is your husband, son, grandfather, brother, or father, take some time on June 19 to let those men know how important they are in your life. While there is nothing wrong with sending cards or sharing presents, the far more valuable gift is your time and attention.
From all of us at WCF Financial Bank, Happy Father’s Day greetings to men everywhere who share in the joy and responsibility of fatherhood.
